Earlier we learned King Solomon was granted great wisdom because of the unselfish request he made to God. God answered his request and blessed King Solomon with abundantly more because he sought to help the people of Israel instead of himself.

• What are ways we can seek wisdom from God? (Answers may include: Through prayer like King Solomon; by reading the Bible; learning from pastors, teachers and our parents; etc.)

One way we can seek wisdom from God is by reading, learning from, and praying over God’s Word, the Bible. It is the wisest book ever written, filled with truths that cause us to make intelligent choices when we learn what God desires us to do. Solomon wrote most of the Book of Proverbs which is a book known for giving wise advice on how to handle all kinds of situations in life.

One way to pocket truths and wisdom that God gives us is by writing those truths and Bible verses onto index cards. We can store the cards together in one place and have quick access to them throughout the day. The most powerful thing we can do is combine Scripture and prayer together.  

Not sure how? Take a look at today’s memory verse. (Have a volunteer read the verse out loud.)  Here’s how we might pray this verse: “Lord, I’m really having a hard time understanding why I have to move again and start a new school. I’m upset and sad and don’t know how to deal with it. But, I know Your Word says that I should trust in You with all my heart, so that’s what I want to do. God, will You help me to trust in You instead of relying on my own understanding? In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Hand out index cards and pens/pencils to students. If your class is meeting online, invite students to have their index cards and pens/pencils ready.

Have students choose a verse that spoke to them in today’s lesson and write it on an index card. They can use today’s memory verse, any from the passages read during the lesson, or their own personal favorites. Have several volunteers share the verses they chose. If students hear any verses they like that their classmates share, encourage them to add those to their verse cards.

Having good judgement to make the right decisions is important. The only true source for that wisdom is through God. He gives us so much of His wisdom in the Bible. These are His Words! His ideas! This week, internalize God’s wisdom. Search for it by reading your Bibles and asking God to give it to you. As you find other verses that share wisdom, add them to your verse cards. Look over those truths again and again and let them be imprinted on your hearts. Then pray them!

God gives us wisdom to think and act and pray in His Spirit so that our every action and our every word glorifies and brings attention to God. THAT is wise.
